Stiavelli, renowned brand for packaging machines and now division of Pavan Group – worldwide leading manufacturer of plants for the food industry – presented for the first time at Interpack 2005 (Düsseldorf, April 21st – 27th, 2005, Hall 15, Booth C36) some new packaging systems:

The packaging system SVMC-1/DFQ-Electronic is very versatile and ideal for packaging of various types of products (such as pasta, dry fruits, sweets, etc.) in brick bags or pillow bags. The system is composed - in an integrated structure - of one continuous vertical packaging machine and one carousel that receives the square bottom bags, gives their upper part - through various stations - a square shape and inserts either a sticker, or a scotch tape or a clip.

The vertical packaging machine, with main drives performed by independent brushless motors that are controlled and synchronised with each other by a smart-drive system, is equipped with film drive by vacuum-tight suction, vertical sealer with resistance and rotating band, MCR type jaws group with mechanical device for forming square bottom bags, automatic device for transversal film centering (driving the whole rear part of the machine, including the reel), special junction plate for easier reel change, sensors to stop the machine in case of film break. The carousel is composed of a series of stations that shape the bag according to the pre-set features. The first stations make the upper part of the bag square, the last ones seal the bag. The packaging system is controlled by an industrial PLC through a single operator interface panel with touch-screen function.

The high speed snack packaging system is a specific machine for snack products and is made up of one multi-head weigher model SPC14S (that keeps the concepts of a standard machine but is customised for snack packaging by re-dimensioning channels, buckets and discharge chutes) and of one continuous vertical packaging machine model SVMC/S-Electronic (with main drives performed by independent brushless motors controlled and synchronised with each other by a smart-drive system; another appreciable feature is the double transversal jaws group especially designed for snack packaging). The vertical packaging machine is also equipped with film drive by vacuum-tight suction, vertical sealer with resistance and rotating band, automatic device for transversal film centering (driving the whole rear part of the machine, including the reel), special junction plate for easier reel change, sensors to stop the machine in case of film break. The packaging system is controlled by an industrial PLC through a single operator interface panel with touch-screen function.

The packaging machine model SVMA-M is a new alternate-motion machine, controlled by brushless motors, that allows to form four-sides sealed packages thanks to special accessories. The packaging machine is equipped with vertical sealing bar, film drive and jaws group with brushless motor drive, specific system for forming square bottom bags, special junction plate for easier reel change, automatic device for transversal film centering (driving the whole rear part of the machine, including the reel). The packaging machine is controlled by an industrial PLC through a single operator interface panel with touch-screen function. This new machine is ideal for all those applications where high quality packages are required.

The continuous horizontal packaging system model SO NEW-S/Electronic (top-level machine for packaging long-cut pasta in pillow bags), equipped of special double doser for long-cut pasta, single product inlet, spaghetti line-up device, double loading cell for each weighing group, self-tuning breaking device for the reel holding shafts, automatic transversal film centering, automatic stop in case of film break, MCR jaw with device to reject the package in case of pasta fragments between the jaws. The last generation multi-head weighers of the SPC series, conceived to satisfy the requirements of various food categories (snacks, bakery, pasta, cereals, dried fruit, candies, fresh products, granular products in general). The high speed, great accuracy and flexibility in weighing are combined with an easier management achieved thanks to new construction concepts. Buckets are designed to avoid small size products spillage. SPC weighers, with simple or double opening, can be supplied with larger buckets for special applications and big volumes, or with embossed or Teflon-coated stainless steel buckets for fresh and hard-flowing products. All hopper types can be easily removed. Particular attention has been paid to the weigher accessibility and cleaning. Machine stops are significantly reduced thanks to the easy replacement of each weighing head.
In the SPC weighers all parts in contact with the product are made of foodgrade stainless steel and the various models are available with painted frame or with frame in stainless steel.

A touch-screen type back-lit colour display enables the operator to easily set the working parameters, the language, to recall the preset working profiles (100 different production programs can be stored) and to get information such as standard deviation, production reports, etc. The self-diagnostic system detects and displays the causes of machine stops when they occur. To ensure the highest security in the weighers management, there are two different levels of password (these levels can be even more on request), one for setting up the working parameters (operator level) and one for the special parameters (manager level).
SPC weighers are very versatile and can be coupled with any vertical packaging machine or horizontal packaging machine for cartons or horizontal thermoforming systems, etc.

The checkweighers model CPSDM400 with integrated metal detector, allowing an effective weight check of both single packages weight and total production. Once the tolerance limits have been set the overweight packages can be either rejected or accepted while the underweight ones will be always rejected. There various models cover a wide range of applications.

Among the main advantages of both multi-head weighers SPC and checkweighers CPS it is important to mention the data processing for the weight detection by combining digital to analog converter and DSP (Digital Signal Processor), and the use of digital filtering technology. Moreover, software updating and data saving are made through USB pen drive which allows to save time in comparison with the use of traditional EPROM. The terminals are equipped with Ethernet output, configurable RS232 and parallel port.
